Sheila McNab
I have attached some pictures of Sheila using the trike. You will see that it is a great success and enables us both to get to places where only I could get to before. It has absolutely huge traction and vastly improved stability.
On very steep hills (above 25%) I do need to hold the front or put some weight onto the carrier to avoid the possibility of the trike tipping back if the power is applied too quickly. You did tell me of your concern about this (I did specify for the batteries to be mounted under the chair) and I do not consider it a problem. Mounting kerbs and other obstructions is no problem either if the front castors are swung out of the way; otherwise they can ground.
We have just returned from a 6 mile round walk which involved 50% on rough tracks and vegetation and over 350ft of climbing. At the end the Heinzman battery indicator had 2 of the 5 LEDs illuminated which implies that 40% of the battery capacity remained.
It is possibly safe to expect 10 miles per battery. On a level smooth surface the distance would be significantly greater. This is interesting because the PDQ, using the same battery technology, but of almost twice the capacity, would have struggled to make the 6 miles over such demanding terrain. This suggests that the Heinzman motor and controller combination is much more efficient. It is also interesting that although the motor is continuously in gear (because of the reverse function) it is not disadvantaged compared with the freewheel arrangement (as with the PDQ).
You will note from pictures that Scottish weather is not always warm, even in summer. We are absolutely delighted with it!
Best wishes, Norman & Sheila McNab
