We have found Mark and Simon of Team Hybrid extremely knowledgeable and helpful. We went to them to retro fit our son's recumbent trike with an electric motor. He has cerebral palsy and needs some assistance on hills and rougher terrain. Having researched and spoken with a number of people we decided to go with Team Hybrid and leave them with our son's pride and joy.

There was never any real doubt that we would be happy but until it is done and you see the result you are a little anxious. The result was not just good but fantastic. They did a really neat job and it does exactly what we hoped it would do. There were a number of technical issues that had to be overcome and they were sorted expertly. Our son is thrilled( no more towing or straining) but mum and dad are left exhausted trying to keep up!

The looks from people that we pass are great to see, usually open mouthed and followed by a woooo!!

It gives our son an amazing machine and allows us to go cycling together over any terrain.

Thank you Team Hybrid.

I have attached some pictures of Sheila using  the trike. You will see that it is a great success and enables us both to get to places where only I could get to before. It has absolutely huge traction and vastly improved stability.

On very steep hills (above 25%) I do need to hold the front or put some weight onto the carrier to avoid the possibility of the trike tipping back if the power is applied too quickly. You did tell me of your concern about this (I did specify for the batteries to be mounted under the chair) and I do not consider it a problem. Mounting kerbs and other obstructions is no problem either if the front castors are swung out of the way; otherwise they can ground.

We have just returned from a 6 mile round walk which involved 50% on rough tracks and vegetation and over 350ft of climbing. At the end the Heinzman battery indicator had 2 of the 5 LEDs illuminated which implies that 40% of the battery capacity remained.

It is possibly safe to expect 10 miles per battery. On a level smooth surface the distance would be significantly greater. This is interesting because the PDQ, using the same battery technology, but of almost twice the capacity, would have struggled to make the 6 miles over such demanding terrain. This suggests that the Heinzman motor and controller combination is much more efficient. It is also interesting that although the motor is continuously in gear (because of the reverse function) it is not disadvantaged compared with the freewheel arrangement (as with the PDQ).

You will note from pictures that Scottish weather is not always warm, even in summer. We are absolutely delighted with it!

Best wishes, Norman & Sheila McNab

A couple of pics of off roader taken on Sunday – wet, muddy, slippery conditions through woods and across a maize stubble field of wet, clingly clay and some very steep inclines all negotiated well.  Am hugely impressed with its performance.  Have still only charged each battery once and the current battery has done me a full circuit of the farm and the clay shoot yesterday with some charge still left.  Difficult to put a distance figure on it but the conditions, especially yesterday, were pretty grim.  Will let you have more news as and when.

Best wishes

Andy
